Youngstown firefighters participated in a training exercise at a house at the corner of Ford Avenue and Arlington Street, adjacent to the Youngstown State University campus.

Flames could be seen coming from the roof of the two-story, aluminum sided house at about 10:30 a.m. today, April 25.

Residents, students and nearby businesses didn’t know this was a training exercise.

The firefighting cadets were learning the dangers of battling a vacant house fire.

Another training exercise is planned Friday, May 2. A location wasn’t given.
