More than 1,300 students will graduate from Youngstown State University this semester. Chris Davidson has the story.

YSU’s spring commencement takes place May 17 at Beeghley Center.

Keynote speaker is Robert Shroder, vice president of Catholic Health Partners and president of Humility of Mary Health Partners.

Graduating senior and McDonald native, Melissa Wasser, will address her classmates.

WASSER: Really we all have a common bond and that is Youngstown State University. I think no matter where we go what we do, we should be able to propel that message and be proud Penguins for life

Wasser, who is graduating with a double major in political science and philosophy, will attend the University of Cincinnati College of Law in the fall.

State has really prepared me for whatever comes next and I’m really thankful to this institution for what they done for me.

The undergraduate commencement begins at 10 a.m. The ceremony for graduate students is at 2:30 p.m.
