The Rev. Krueger hopes as many 60 people will tie the knot this Friday.

KRUEGER: Last year we had nine. And I thought for the first year that was very good. We have had good publicity again this year. If we have two couples – that would be fine because we’re getting to do something for them. It would be great if we would have 25, 30 couples.

Couples take advantage of this opportunity for walk-in weddings for many different reasons.

KRUEGER: We had some renewal of marriage vows last year, one couple who had been married about 35 years and then we had a couple who had been married previously to each other, had gotten divorced and had reconnected, and were getting remarried again.

Rev. Krueger is a realist.

KRUEGER: The reason that we decided to do the walk-in weddings was that there are so many people that will never come to a church, that they would love to have a church wedding but because of finances or ‘I’ve done stuff in my past,’ nobody would want me in their church.

The downtown church welcomes walk-ins this Valentine’s day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 5 to 7 p.m.
